Zion School Connection #40 10 May 2021

 Zion CEA Meeting Today

Our last Zion Christian Education Association meeting for the school year will be this afternoon, Monday, May 10th at 3:15 p.m. Zion parents are invited and encouraged to attend. We plan to meet at the picnic tables by the playground, weather permitting. Hope to see you there!

 Zion Track Season

Zion track season is competed for the year. We thank teachers and coaches for their work as well as organizing and running our field day this last Thursday. Top finishers in our events will be recognized after chapel on Wednesday.

Pennies for Patients/ LLS Hero Squad

From now until May 24th, Zion Lutheran School will be participating in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Pennies for Patients/Hero Squad program, a service-learning program that helps raise critical funds for blood cancer patients, particularly children. A flyer was sent home last week with details, but here is a recap.

There are two ways to help:

1. Each classroom is a Hero Squad. Students are asked to bring spare change to school. It can be pennies, nickels, dimes quarters, or more! It can be from home, or they can ask family and friends if they would like to give. Each classroom has a jar to collect their classroom’s donations. The classrooms will be having a friendly competition to see which Hero Squad can raise the most for LLS between now and May 24th.

2. If parents, family and friends would like to donate to our Hero Squads online, they can do so at herosquad.org. Find our school (Zion, Monroe, MI) and register your student. Donations collected here will be included in the classroom totals for that student’s classroom. Friends and family can also donate online by looking up our school. Donations can also be made to the school collection as a whole and not be designated to a student’s classroom if you wish.

The classroom that collects the most change and online donations will receive a special treat during the last week of school.                                                                                                   If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Schneck. Thank you!

The students of Grades 6-8 are working on our school yearbooks, and need pictures!

Among the pictures needed:

-       Candid photos of all classes

-       Sports pics for volleyball, basketball, soccer, field day, etc.

-       Pics of the school musical

Thank you!

Congratulations to Mr. Kurt Nielsen!

Mr. Nielsen has completed his Master’s Degree in Educational Technology and will be receiving his degree at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota this next weekend. Congratulations and God’s blessings, Mr. Nielsen!

As many of you already know, our grades 3-5 teacher and athletic director, Mr. Kurt Nielsen, has accepted a call to serve at Mount Olive Lutheran School in Appleton, Wisconsin starting in the 2021-22 school year. We wish Mr. Nielsen and his family God’s blessings as he continues to serve the Lord in this new ministry. A farewell picnic is being planned for Sunday, June 6.

On April 20th, Mr. Ryan Roth accepted the call from Zion congregation to be our middle grades teacher and athletic director here at Zion Lutheran School starting in the 2021-22 school year.
