 MLS Children’s Theatre Visit

On Monday, March 16, we will be hosting the Michigan Lutheran Seminary’s Children’s Theatre for their presentation of The Enchanted Bookshop in our Zion gymnasium at 10:30 a.m. Joining us will be students from St. Stephen, Adrian and St. Paul’s, Livonia. Parents are welcome to join us for this presentation!

Chapel Service

School families are invited to join us for our morning school chapel service this Wednesday, March 18 at 8:05 a.m. Parents, family and friends are always welcome! This year’s chapel offering is supporting our synod’s ministry work in the country of Australia. Please pray for this ministry and the people it serves.

Christian Education Association (CEA) Meeting Wednesday, March 18

The Zion CEA meets this Wednesday, March 18 at 3:10 p.m. The agenda will include spring activities. All Preschool through Grade 8 parents are invited and encouraged to attend.

Early Dismissal - Friday, March 20

There will be EARLY DISMISSAL on Friday, March 20 for teacher in-service as it is the end of our 3rd Quarter of the school year. Classes will dismiss at 11 a.m.

Optional Third Quarter Parent-Teacher Consultations

Our 3rd Quarter of the school year ends on Friday, March 20. We invite our Zion parents to meet to discuss their child’s 3rd quarter report in a parent-teacher consultation during the week of March 24-26. These are not required meetings, but we encourage our school families to make the most of this opportunity as we move into our final quarter of school. Appointments will be available March 24-26,  after school and in the evenings.

Preschool parents are asked to make arrangements directly with Mrs. Dorow if you would like a consultation time.

Mother-Daughter Tea  - Sunday, April 19

On April 19 is our annual Zion Mother-Daughter Tea. Please see the flyer and RSVP slip attached to this newsletter. RSVP slips need to be returned to the church/school office by Friday, April 17. If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Freiny.

Diaper Drive

Zion is conducting a “Diaper Drive” for the Redford Pregnancy Counseling Center until March 29. If you wish to donate diapers, wipes, and other baby essentials, they can be dropped off on the table in the church entrance. If you have any questions or are wondering about items to donate, please contact Deanna Schneck at 907-230-6715. Thanks!

The Zion Upper Grades “Warrior Oasis” are selling milk and juice options for lunches to students daily.  Students in grades K-8 wanting to purchase milk or juice for lunch can do so across from the school library at the start of lunch hour, 11:45 to 11:55 a.m.

Drink items available:      Horizon Organic Whole Milk $1.50 or Quik Chocolate Milk $1.25      

Orange Juice (bottle) $1.00  Juicy Juice Boxes $0.50 (Apple, Fruit Punch, Grape, Berry)         

Purchases are cash only. Profits will go towards the upper grade field trip fund.

Coffee with Friends!

The Warrior Oasis Cafe is open on TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS. After dropping off the kiddos, come enjoy a great cup of coffee or hot tea with fellow parents and friends before heading out for the day, or grab a cup to go. Coffee will be self-serve on Tuesdays and served in the gym on Fridays. Coffee is served starting at 7:45 a.m.  Cost is a free-will donation to the 7th-8th Field Trip Fund.

St. Jude’s Penny Drive results

Thank you to all who donated to our Penny Drive for St. Judes! The classroom with the most positive points (pennies vs. silver) was Preschool with a score of +$4.64. In total we collected 7,699 pennies and $405.55 in other coins, for a grand total of $484.39 for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital families.

Wednesday, March 4 - Spirit Day: Anything But a Backpack/Water Bottle Day  - Forget your backpack

and water bottle. Bring your books and water in any unusual or creative container you can think of!

Thursday, March 5 - Spirit Day: Green and White Day - Show your school spirit by wearing our colors!

Special Presenter from River Raisin Battlefield Park will talk about Native American wampum craft

while we make our own wampum belts at 9 a.m. Pep Rally at 2:30pm. Parents are invited!

Friday, March 6 - Spirit Day: Crazy Hair Day EARLY DISMISSAL AT 11 a.m.

Hope Christian Academy C Team Basketball Jamboree in the afternoon

Each day of Spirit Week will start with a chapel devotion together as a school at 8:05 a.m. Parents and families are welcome to attend.

There will be no school classes on Monday, March 9.

Art Fair Sunday, March 8

The Zion Fine ARTS FAIR is this Sunday, March 9! Students as well as our school family parents and members of Zion Congregation are invited to share their gifts with the school family! Artwork should be brought to Zion by March 6. Then all are welcome to join us on Sunday from 12-2 p.m. to enjoy the talents of our Zion family. Light refreshments will also be served.

Grades K-8 Sing for Church, Handchimes B Play This Sunday

As scheduled, grades K-8 will be singing for the 9 a.m. church service at Zion this Sunday, March 8. Hanchimes B (3-5) will also be playing for this service. Students in grades K-8 should be at church by 8:40 a.m. to prepare.

Penny Drive for St. Jude’s Children' s Research Hospital Until March 7

The jars are starting to fill! Our classrooms are enjoying a little friendly competition with a penny drive to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. This drive has a bit of a twist - every PENNY counts TOWARDS the classroom’s goal, but silver coins - nickels, dimes, quarters, etc. count AGAINST the goal. ( example: 1 penny = 1 point, 1 nickel = -5 points) All classroom jars are in the school entrance. Put pennies in your jars and put other coins in the other classrooms’ jars to earn points for your room and take points away from the other classrooms! This is a fun competition to raise money for St. Judes, which offers life-saving medical care to children without cost for families in need. Collection jars will be in the school entrance until Wednesday, March 4 and the results shared on Friday, March 6. We will have a sweet treat reward for the winning classroom! We will have daily chapel devotions all this week for ZLS week. School families are invited to join us daily at 8:05 a.m.

Cheerleading/Pee Wee Poms

Pee Wee Poms practices Monday, March 2 from 3-4 p.m. Cheerleaders practice Wednesday, March 4 from 3-4 p.m.

We will have a ZLS Week Pep Rally this Thursday, March 5 at 2:30 p.m. Our school families are invited to join us!

Sports - Co-Ed Basketball

Practice this week for A and B teams (grades 5-8), is on Tuesday and Thursday, March 3 and 5,  from 3 to 4:45 p.m.

C team practices Wednesday, March 4 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. 

Games:

Friday, March 6  - C Team Basketball Jamboree at Hope Christian Academy, Westland

Zion plays at 5, 6, and 7:30 p.m. Players should be at HCA by 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, March 7 - A Team Tournament at Hope Christian Academy, Westland
