Zion School Connection Newsletter #5 20 September 2021

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.” – 1 Timothy 2:5-6

He didn’t mean to do it. Practicing baseball in the back yard, he swung at the ball he just tossed in the air, and the bat connected. Crash! The perfect hit sent the ball flying into the neighbor’s window. The neighbor was angry, and stormed over to tell his mother what the child had done. When he finally appeared, his mother scolded him and said that his father would deal with him when he got home from work. For the next hour the boy lay on his bed in tears, fearing his fate. But just before his father arrived, the boy went to talk to his mother. Would this woman with a caring heart perhaps speak up for her son and soften the father’s potential anger?

Not a baseball, but instead our many sins have shattered mankind’s relationship with the Holy God. Even just one sin is enough to condemn. How can we stand before our righteous heavenly Father? Enter Jesus. He is our go-between, softening the Father’s wrath not with convincing words, but with action. Jesus took our punishment, suffering in our place on the cross for the sins we committed. The Father listens to him because Jesus has already paid the debt. That is the reason he became man, to give himself as a ransom for all people. As true God and true man, his blood was precious and his death powerful enough to cover the world’s sins. When Jesus our Redeemer mediates for us with God we are forgiven. With Jesus as our go-between, we can approach our Holy God fearlessly knowing that he call us his children and, for Jesus’ sake, remembers our sins no more.

May God remind us daily that we have peace with him through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Chapel Services

School families are invited to join us for our Wednesday school chapel service this week Wednesday, September 22nd from 8:05 to 8:35 a.m. Parents, family and friends are welcome!

A chapel offering is collected at our chapel services to be designated to a mission project each year. An envelope is provided with the hard copy of this note to remind the students of our collection. This year our chapel offerings will benefit the WELS World Missions program serving the people of Pakistan. Please remember this ministry in your family’s daily prayers.

There are sign-up sheets available on the school bulletin board for both groups. Students in grades 3-8 are eligible to participate.

 School Photos

Our school picture day is scheduled for Tuesday, November 2nd. We will once again be using Lifetouch.

We have had some difficulty getting last year’s 2020-21 yearbook completed, but hope to have it available to distribute by mid-October. My apologies for the delay.

 Please be mindful of Covid

We want to do our best to minimize any potential spread within our school family by practicing safe mitigation strategies at school and at home. Please help us by keeping the following in mind:

·         If you have any indication that your child might be ill, please keep them home. A seemingly mild cold can turn out to be something else. Even allergy-like symptoms can potentially turn out to be a bigger concern. If it turns out to be Covid that impacts every student he or she comes in contact with.

·         Please remind your child to practice hand washing and sanitizing often, as well as avoiding sharing any personal items, like supplies or toys brought from home.

·         While we do not require masks to be worn, parents may have their child mask if they feel the need to do so. For parents dropping off and picking up their children in the building, masks are not required, but if you are comfortable with masking, we appreciate the extra consideration, especially if your work has you coming into contact with a lot of people during the day.

We understand that there is no way to protect our school family 100 percent of the time, but if we keep vigilant we can hopefully avoid any major issues. Please help us keep our school family safe and healthy!

 Chapel Services

School families are invited to join us for our Wednesday school chapel service this week Wednesday, September 1st from 8:05 to 8:35 a.m. Parents, family and friends are welcome! Our chapel theme this year follows our school year theme of “set your minds on things above” by focusing on the awesome miracles of God. A chapel offering is collected at our chapel services to be designated to a mission project each year. An envelope is provided with this note to remind the students of our collection. This year our chapel offerings will benefit the WELS World Missions program serving the people of Pakistan. School classes start at 8:00 a.m. Students should be in their desks and ready to go at that time. Bringing your child late to school can be frustrating for them, as they don’t get proper time to settle in for the day, as well as disruptive for the class. If you are late bringing your child to school, they must come with a written excuse from their parent indicating the reason for their tardiness, or you may also phone into the office to let us know you will be late and your reason. Please remember that three unexcused tardies result in one absent day being applied to their school record, as per our handbook policy.

Whenever possible, please notify the teacher in advance of any absences. If your child is going to be absent for the day and the teacher was not notified in advance, please call into the school office to let us know by 9:00 a.m. Absences must be excused by a written note or an email to the school office office@zionmonroe.org (not a text). If your child is out due to illness for three days or more, we must receive a doctor’s note per health department requirements.

 Softball

Students in grades 6-8 are gearing up for their WELS area schools Softball Day at Crown of Life, Warren on Friday, September 17th. 6-8 students are asked to bring softball or baseball gloves for use during recesses and at Phy-Ed on Fridays. If you happen to have any extra ball gloves to spare, we would love to borrow them for students who need them.

 Scrip

Do you use the Scrip program? This year several school families using Scrip last school year reduced their combined tuition costs for this school, with one family saving over $1200 alone! It only costs a little bit of your time, but the savings could be substantial. You can use Scrip for your own family’s tuition, or designate it to help another school family. More information on the program is available on the school bulletin board.

 If your child is ill…

·         If your child is ill with any type of cold or fever or you suspect they are coming down with something, please keep them home.
