Zion School Connection #36 19 April 2021

The Zion School Musical, It’s Cool in the Furnace, is this week!

There are two performances: Friday, April 23rd at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 24th at 10:30 a.m. Students need to attend BOTH performances, but we are asking families to sign-up to attend a particular performance with any extended family so that we know how many to plan for each day. The performances will be outdoors like the auction was this last weekend. A separate email will be sent out with a Google Form for families to reserve seats for one of the performances. A link to the form will also be provided with the email version of this newsletter. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Some students still need to bring their costume t-shirts and sandals in to school. (They were due on Friday.)  A note was sent home a few weeks ago with details on needed costume basics for students in grades K-8. Students will need a solid color oversized t-shirt with no patterns or printing on it. The t-shirt should reach down to (or past) their knees. Any color will do, but bright colors will look better. The students should also have sandals or flip-flops to wear. These can be any color or style as well, but avoid ones with flowers or decorations glued to them, if possible. We will provide cloth sashes for the students.

 Chapel Service

School families are invited to join us for our morning school chapel service this week Wednesday, April 21st at 8:05 a.m. Parents, family and friends are welcome! Parents attending chapel are asked to park in the circle drive (Cole Road entrance) and enter through door “D”.

 Zion Track Season

We are continuing open practices for school track on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday April 19th. 20th, and 22nd from 3-4:30 p.m. Practices will be held outside. Due to Covid testing requirements, the Board of Education has determined that we will not be participating in the area WELS school track meet at HVL. We will still take Friday, May 7th as a day off of school as scheduled. We are planning an in-house field day in place of the HVL meet sometime in early May. Track practice is open to both girls and boys, grades 3-8.

Thank you to all those who helped put the Zion CEA Auction together, as well as those who generously bid on our items!

Sunday was a beautiful day for our outdoor auction. Receipts are still coming in, but we raised close to $13,000 for Zion CEA. Thank you, both workers and participants, for being a blessing to us! Special thanks to Amy Vanisacker and Liz Seibert for their planning and coordination.

Zion School Connection Issue #35 April 12, 2021

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.”  – 1 John 2:15-17

 Going Somewhere or Going Nowhere?

Christian writer Max Lucado tells a story about an airplane ride that goes something like this: As he was boarding a plane for a cross country flight, he approached his assigned seat to find a surprise. The man in the seat next to him had removed his airline seat and replaced it with a soft leather recliner and many other additions. Sitting there in his comfortable bathrobe and slippers he proceeded to demonstrate to Max all the wonderful features: a fully stocked refrigerator, drink dispenser, a large screen TV and a selection of movies, full internet access. The list goes on. His fellow passenger had determined to make himself the most comfortable passenger on the plane. Considering the great expense that the man must have taken for an upgrade of this magnitude, Max asks him, “So what will you do when we reach our destination and you have to leave the airplane?”

“Leave the plane?” the man replied, “Why would I ever do that? I’m staying right here!”

Many people mistakenly believe that this world is all that there is, and surround themselves with many comforts and conveniences. Even Christians can get caught up in “storing up riches” for themselves, forgetting that this life is not a destination, but a journey. The best education, the nicest house, the greatest vacations, the coolest car, we can be tempted to spend so much time making this life comfortable that we forget that we are only on a journey, and that heaven is our real destination.

On an airline flight we might bring a few things to make us as comfortable as possible, but when we recognize that the trip will soon be over, we don’t waste our time on overwhelming luxury, because we know that the trip will be over soon. In the same way we as believers can endure a little

discomfort, preferring to spend most of our time and treasure with the end of the trip in mind, because we know what awaits us at the destination: A time of rest, an eternity of joy, and a place at our Father’s table.

We all want what is best for our children. But perhaps we need to look more carefully at what that is. Is it more important to make the soccer game on Sunday or make worship? Will our family benefit more from that new flat screen TV or from volunteer time in the community or at church? Do our priorities in life reflect God’s importance or our own self-importance? Do we spend more time teaching our children that this life matters most, or that the One who gives us eternal life matters most?

May God help us to never make the mistake of preparing only for the journey and not the destination. After all, that man in Max’s story would eventually have to get off of the plane, no matter how comfortable he was. We too, will one day be finished with our journey. Are you and your family ready to depart the “plane” and enter into the eternal home prepared by Jesus for you?

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. - Matthew 6:19-21

God bless your week,

Principal Schneck J

We are starting open practices for school track on Tuesday, April 13th from 3-4:30 p.m. Practices will be held outside. Typically these practices culminate in a single WELS area schools track meet at HVL, but we are still working out the details and will share them when available. 2021-2022 School Enrollment

Letters were sent home several weeks ago with 2021-22 enrollment information. In order to aid in our planning, we ask that all families planning to enroll for the fall begin their registration process. School families should have received an email invitation from TADS last week to register for the new school year.   If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Schneck.

We are currently enrolling new students for the 2021-2022 school year as well.  If you know of any family or friends who may be interested in our school program, please share our information with them, or invite them to visit our website. If they are willing, you can also give their contact information to Mr. Schneck and we will reach out to them. Thank you!

The Zion CEA Auction is this Sunday, April 18th!

We still need volunteers to help on or before Sunday in a variety of tasks. An email was sent out with a link to our CEA Auction Sign-Up Genius page with details on needed help. You can access the page at this address:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090b45aba82fa0f58-zion8

The auction starts at 12:30 p.m. This will be an outdoor (tent) event. Food will not be served by Zion, but The Meat Guys food truck will be on hand to provide food for purchase, with a portion of their sales going to Zion. You may also bring a picnic lunch if you wish.

We will send out a flyer to share more details about the event in the next few days.

Questions? Contact Amy Vanisacker in the church/school office.

Zion School Connection #34 March 29th 2021

He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” – Matthew 28:6

In life, are you a “cup half empty” kind of person, or “cup half full”? I’m sure you’ve heard this contrast in sayings before as metaphors for the pessimist (“its half empty”) or the optimist (“its half full”).

Here’s another question for you. Are you a “grave half empty” person?

I doubt if this metaphor is every going to become quite as popular, but this is why I ask: As Believers we know the story of our crucified and risen Savior. This week we will remember Jesus’ suffering and death as the price for our sins on Good Friday, and rejoice in and proclaim our Lord’s glorious triumph over death on Easter Sunday morning. We know in our head what it all means: eternity with our Lord in heaven! A perfect rest in him! Ultimate joy forever and ever!

Yet on Monday, we go back to our daily tasks, our jobs, our “real life”. We may tend to forget the Easter joy and weigh ourselves down with the daily burdens of life that God would so gladly carry for us, if we would simply ask and trust. In fact, sometimes we even glory in our misery, and would rather have something to complain about than to remember the complete joy that is ours. It’s as if Jesus grave were only “half empty”.

But it isn’t. The angel said, “He is NOT here. He is risen!” That joyous good news should be in our thoughts and on our lips every day of our lives, not just Easter Sunday! What a great reason for daily joy and celebration!

Back to the cups: For believers in Christ, what does that COMPLETELY empty grave mean? Our cup is never “half-full”. Simply considering our salvation alone, our cup of life is full to the brim. Do I have financial worries? I’m still going to heaven! Is their illness in the family? Or death? Heaven remains our home! Is there trouble in my home, or at work, or in the community? Jesus is still my loving Savior, and my dearest friend, and he holds me in his hand!

Will there still be sorrow in my life at times? Of course. But the problems of my daily life are nothing compared to the joy won for me by mySavior. No matter what comes, I always have a reason to rejoice.

But our Lord doesn’t stop there! He continues to give us blessings far over and above what we deserve. God’s daily blessings overflow in even troubled lives, if we would only look for them. He also daily gives us the opportunity to be comforted by his Word, and through contacts with fellow believers.

Is Jesus’ grave half empty? No way. He is risen! So we too will rise!

Cup half empty? On the contrary. It continues to overflow!

Thank you Lord, for Easter joy. Please help us to carry it with us throughout the entire year, and throughout our lives.

God bless your celebration of Easter,

Principal Schneck J
