My apologies for not getting a note out last week. The 7th and 8th grade itinerant scholars and I, along with parent chaperones, were circling Lake Michigan on this year’s Discover America tour. Zion CEA Meets Wednesday, May 14

There will be a Zion Christian Education Association meeting this Wednesday, May 14 at 3:10 p.m. All preschool and K-8 parents are invited and encouraged to attend. On the agenda are end-of-year and summer activities.


No School Classes - Friday, May 16

There will be no school classes on Friday, May 16. Students from grades 3-8 will be participating in the SMLAL Track Meet at Hope Christian Academy in Westland. GO WARRIORS!


Chapel Service

School families are invited to join us for our morning school chapel service this Wednesday, May 14. Parents, family and friends are always welcome!

We have been collecting a mission offering all school-year long for Branch Lutheran Schools of Haiti. This week’s chapel offering will be the last opportunity to give towards this ministry. Please remember this ministry and the children it serves in your prayers.


MCLS Bookmobile Visits Thursday

The Monroe County Library System Bookmobile will be making its final visit this Thursday, May 15 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. This will only be a pick-up visit, as it is the last of the school year. Students are asked to bring any Monroe Library bookmobile books to be returned.

End of School Year Picnic and Preschool Graduation

Just a reminder of the activities and changes to graduation coming up towards the end of May. This year we will hand out our student awards and certificates following our final 8:05am chapel service on Wednesday, May 21. That day will also include our Preschool Graduation at 10:30am and our school picnic at 11am. 


School Picnic - Donations Needed

This is a special picnic as we will also be recognizing Mr. Roth's 25th Anniversary in the teaching ministry. CEA will be providing the meats and mains, but are looking for donations of watermelon, chips, veggie trays and cookies (regular and gluten free). We will also have some inflatables for the students, and an adult vs kids kickball game - so parents come dressed ready to play some kickball! Please contact Stepfanie Sitzman if you have any questions.


8th Grade Graduation

On Thursday, May 22 we will hold our 8th Grade Graduation Service at 2pm. K-8 students will be singing and participating in this service. There will be refreshments and our Kindergarten graduation following.


Confirmation Sunday May 18

Two of our 8th grade students, Echo and Callen,  will be confirmed as adult members of our church body on Sunday, May 18 at our 9am worship service. God’s blessings to you, confirmands!


Coffee with Friends

There will only be Warrior Oasis Coffee served on Tuesday this week.

After dropping off the kiddos, come enjoy a great cup of Kaladi’s coffee or hot tea with fellow parents and friends before heading out for the day, or grab a cup to go. Coffee is served starting at 7:45am.  Cost is a free-will donation to the Upper Grade Field Trip Fund. Thank you everyone for supporting our Grade 7-8 Lake Michigan Circle Tour Field Trip!

Chapel Service

Sports - Track

Students in grades 3-8 have been gearing up during recesses for the track season. The first meet is the Ohio Schools Meet in Ada, Ohio this Friday, May 2. Only grades 3-6 are participating in this meet, as grades 7-8 will be on their field trip. Mr. Roth has already emailed out details to the families of participating students. Please contact him if you have any questions.

Note: There will be regular school classes on Friday for those students not attending the meet.


End of School Year Picnic and Graduation

Just a reminder of the activities and changes to graduation coming up towards the end of May. This year we will hand out our student awards and certificates following our final 8am chapel service on Wednesday, May 21. That day will also include our Preschool Graduation at 10:30am and our school picnic at 11am. This year’s picnic will be a special recognition potluck meal with meats provided by the Zion CEA. Watch for more information coming soon.

On Thursday, May 22 we will hold our 8th Grade Graduation at a new time. The Graduation Service will be at 2pm this year, with refreshments and Kindergarten graduation following.

Destinations include Mackinac Island, a mine in Ishpeming in the UP, Lake Superior, a goat farm and dairy, an overnight on board a WWII submarine, and Milwaukee's Discovery World. SMLAL Fine Arts Fair

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the HCA Fine Arts Fair on Saturday! From art to spelling to academic bowl to forensics, our students overall represented our school well. We are very proud of you!

Caramel Corn

The upper grades are still selling Gordon’s Flavored Caramel Corn for their field trip fund this week. Check them out near the school entrance after school. Two sizes available - $8 for small, $12 for large - in a variety of flavors. Look for their popcorn cart when you come for student pick-up.

Our students in grades 7-8 will be taking their Lake Michigan Circle Tour field trip May 1-6, which will include Mackinac, Ishpeming in the U P, Manitowoc, and Milwaukee. Thank you Zion family and friends for supporting our fundraising efforts which make this trip possible!


Good Friday

On Friday, April 18, our K-8 students will be singing for the 1pm Good Friday service at Zion. Handchimes A will also be playing. Students will be dismissed following the service.


Easter Break

There will be no school classes April 21-25 for Easter Break. Enjoy your holiday!

Classes resume Monday, April 28.

  • To the students,  teachers, and volunteers for their hard work presenting this year’s school musical, “Are We   There Yet?” on Friday. We are very proud of our student actors and actresses! Thank you for your fun presentation of an important story from God’s Word. Thank you for being a blessing!

SMLAL Fine Arts Fair - Saturday, April 12

A number of our students will be competing in forensics, spelling, and quiz bowl competitions this Saturday at Hope Christian Academy in Westland from 9:30am-2pm. We will also have artwork from a number of our students in the Art competition as well. Our school family is welcome to  attend. Participating students, we wish God’s blessings on your efforts!


Mother Daughter Tea - Sunday, April 13

There is still time to RSVP (by April 11) for the Zion Mother-Daughter Tea on Sunday, April 13 from 2-4pm in the Zion gymnasium. Informational flyers are available on the table in the school entrance.


Sports - Co-Ed Track

This year we will be holding our track practices during designated recesses in April and May for those in grades 3-8 who wish to participate. Mr. Ryan Roth has sent out an email to our grade 3-8 parents detailing our meet opportunities at the Ohio Schools Meet (grades 3-6) on Friday, May 2 and our usual SMLAL meet (grades 3-8) at Hope Christian Academy on Friday, May 16. See the emails or Mr. Roth for more information.

Note: Please respond to the email to let Mr. Roth know if your child will be able to participate in the Ohio School Meet as soon as possible. Student participation will determine whether or not we participate in the meet.


Round-Up Time

On Thursday, April 10, students moving on to new classrooms in the 2025-2026 school year will have the opportunity to visit their future rooms for a “Round-Up” during a portion of the school day.

St. Paul’s Playgroup - Parents and Littles!

Parents and their toddler and preschool littles are invited to join the St. Paul’s Playgroup on Mondays at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on W. Albain from 8:30-10:30am. Kindergarten or younger along with their parents are welcome. Come for Christian fellowship with devotion, games, crafts and snacks.
