Zion School Connection #7 - September 29, 2025

Chapel Service

School families are invited to join us for our morning school chapel service this week

Wednesday, October 1 at 8:05 a.m. Parents, family and friends are always welcome!

This year’s chapel offering is supporting our church’s new ministry work in the country

of Australia. Please pray for this ministry and the people it serves.

School Sports - Co-Ed Soccer

Soccer practices this week:

C Team -  No practice this week. There are C Team matches on Monday and Tuesday

(see below).

A Team - No Practice Tuesday. Practice on Thursday, October 2 from 3-4:30 p.m. 

Our C team has matches this week on Monday, September 27 HOME vs. St.Pauls, Livonia

at 4:30 p.m. 

and Tuesday, September 30 HOME vs. the HCA Jr. Hawks at 4:30 p.m..

For A Team, this Saturday, October 4 are AWAY matches at Hope Christian Academy, Westland

for the HCA Soccer Tournament starting at 9 a.m. Mr. Roth will provide details to the players’

families.

This Friday, October 3 at 2:30 p.m. we will hold a PEP RALLY for our soccer teams. Parents and families are invited! GO WARRIORS!

Art Club

This year Mrs. Sordahl is organizing an Art Club that meets monthly, open to all Zion

students Pre-K to Grade 8. Parents of preschoolers are asked to attend with their child, but

all parents are welcome to attend.

Art Club meets in the church basement this Friday, October 3 from 3:05-5 p.m. There

is no fee to participate, but donations of supplies are always welcome! (Please speak to

Mrs. Sordahl to find out what items are needed.) All participants are asked to bring a paint

shirt and/or clothing that can get messy.

Projects made at Art Club will be saved for display at our Zion Art Fair in March.

School Family Field Trip - Sterling State Park Kite Rally

Next week Tuesday, October 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. , after our regular morning classes,

we will head over to Sterling State Park, 2800 State Park Road, for an afternoon of fun and

kite flying.Students and families should bring themselves a picnic lunch and drinks, and

kites to flyhomemade or purchase).

We will have access to the park picnic shelter and playground, and we plan

to bring the CEA shave-ice machine!

There is no cost to participate, but a Michigan State Park pass is required

(typically purchased with your automobile license). If you don’t have one on your MI

license plate, the Monroe County Library has a limited number of passes available for

library card holders through the Michigan Activity Pass

program https://mymcls.com/michigan-activity-pass/We will also try to connect non-pass holders with pass holders who can carpool to the park

together (just 10 minutes away).

So pack your picnic lunch and grab your kites on Tuesday, October 7 and join the

Zion school family for some outdoor fun before our conference break!

Zion Arts and Crafts Show - Saturday, October 11

Booth space is still available for students and/or families to sell their craft items! Please

speak to Mrs. Sordahl if you are interested in being a vendor at selling items at our show.

All are welcome to come and enjoy the Zion Arts and Crafts Show on Saturday,

October 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Shop art and craft items made by our school and

church family. There will be food trucks and baked goods for purchase, as well as live

music and entertainment. Attendance is free, but there will be an opportunity to make a

free-will donation. Please join us!

Please note that students need to have purchased a hot lunch punch card to participate

in the hot lunches. Punch cards are available in the church/school office. See the October Zion

CEA Mum Sale

The orders have all been placed. Thank you to everyone who is supporting this fundraiser.

We will need parent volunteers to help sort the orders when they arrive on Tuesday,

September 30. Please let coordinator Melissa Freiny know if you can help out.

For those who ordered, mums should be picked up between noon and 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Delicious Coffee with Friends!

The Warrior Oasis Cafe is open on TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS in the gym. After dropping

off the kiddos, come enjoy a great cup of coffee or hot tea with fellow parents and friends

before heading out for the day, or grab a cup to go. Coffee is served starting at 7:45 a.m. 

Cost is a free-will donation to the 7th-8th Field Trip Fund.

Warrior Oasis

The Zion Upper Grades “Warrior Oasis” is selling milk and juice options for lunches to students

daily.  Students in grades K-8 wanting to purchase milk or juice for lunch can do so across from

the school library at the start of lunch hour, 11:45 to 11:55 a.m. Purchases are cash only. Profits

will go towards the upper grade field trip fund.

School T-Shirt Day

We ask that all of our students wear their beige “SOAR” school theme t-shirts on Wednesday, September 24. We would like to take an all-school photo on that day as well.


Chapel Service

School families are invited to join us for our monthly AFTERNOON school chapel service this week Wednesday, September 24 at 2:30 p.m. Parents, family and friends are always welcome! This year’s chapel offering is supporting our church’s new ministry work in the country of Australia. Please pray for this ministry and the people it serves.

This week, Principal Matt Foley from Hope Christian Academy will present our chapel devotion. Mr. Foley will also be taking an opportunity to talk to the grade 6-8 students about Hope Christian Academy prior to chapel. Parents, if you are interested in Hope Christian Academy as a possible high school program for your child, please check out https://hopehawks.org/ , or email Principal Foley at mail@hopehawks.org . He would love to talk with you about the school and answer any questions you may have.

C Team (grades 2-4) No practice this week. There is a match on Monday (see below).

A Team on Tuesday and Thursday, September 23 and 25 from 3-4:30 p.m. 

Our C team has a match this week on Monday, September 22 AWAY vs. the Hope Junior Hawks at Hope Christian Academy in Westland at 4:30 p.m. This Saturday, September 27 are AWAY matches at St. Stephen, Adrian for our A Team at 9 a.m. vs St. Stephen and 10:30 a.m. vs Trinity, Jenera.

MLCS Bookmobile

The Monroe County Library System Bookmobile will be making its monthly visit this Thursday, September 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Bookmobile visits once per month to allow our students to check out selections from the Monroe County Library. Students will need a valid MCLS library card to check out books from the Bookmobile if they wish. Students are asked to please remember to bring your library card if you wish to check out books.


School Sports - HCA Fun Run and Family Night

The Hope Christian Academy Fun Run and Family Night is this Friday, September 26 and Hope Christian Academy in Westland. Students that are signed up to participate in the run need to be ready at HCA at 3:45 p.m., so those students will be excused from school early at 2:30 p.m. Please speak to Mr. Roth if you have any questions.


MCHD Hearing and Vision Screening

Notes went home with many students this last week for those students that are to receive hearing and/or vision screening on Thursday, September 25. If your child received one, please fill out and return it to the school as soon as possible.
