ZION SCHOOL CONNECTION ISSUE #33 22 MARCH 2021

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”  -1 John 4:10

Do you plan to receive any love letters soon? Those are usually reserved for celebrations like Valentines Day. But coming up starting next Sunday is the celebration of Holy Week, where we remember Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection on Easter Sunday, where a surprising number of “love letters” come to us from our loving Lord.

So will you receive any love letters?

If you will recount God’s love in sending his only Son, identified as King and Savior on Palm Sunday, willingly entering Jerusalem to the cheering crowds crying “Hosannah!” “Save us now!’, yet knowing that those crowds would by Friday be calling for his crucifixion, and still willing to do what was necessary to save us from our sin, then yes, you will.

If you will recount God’s love for you on Maundy Thursday as you remember the words of Jesus, “This is my body…this is my blood…given and shed for you for the forgiveness of your sins”, you will.

If you will listen once more to the story of Christ’s innocent suffering and sacrifice on the cross on Good Friday, you will.

If you will re-live through the eyes of Jesus’ followers the joy of Easter Sunday and the wonder and excitement of a risen Savior, you will.

If you will take time with fellow believers to worship the One who “became sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21), you will.

The Easter story of Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection is a love letter to each of us from God himself.

So what will you do with your love letter? Will you read it with your family? Will you marvel at God’s wondrous love for you?

And then what?

Will you stick it in a box with the Easter decorations, not to be seen until next year?

Will you accidentally throw it out with the candy wrappers and plastic grass?

Or will you and your family carry it with you every day throughout the year, reading it again and again,

and taking every opportunity to show it to anyone who will listen, saying “See how much he loves us?”

May God help us to keep his love letter, the Gospel message found in his Word, the Bible, in our hearts and minds, not just at Easter, but always.

“I asked Jesus, ‘How much do you love me?’

He said, ‘This much.’ And he spread his arms, and died for me.” – unknown

God bless your Holy Week and Easter,

Principal Schneck J

Letter from Zion School Board - 2021-2022 Enrollment and Tuition Information

March 14, 2021

Dear Zion Lutheran School Families,

As we finish our third quarter and move into the completion of our school year, it is time for us to begin planning for the next school year. We are very thankful for your continued support of our school program, and look forward to the opportunity to continue the privilege of serving your family in the new school year.

This week you should receive an email from TADS inviting you to re-enroll for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. We plan to have our open enrollment application available this week for students new to our program as well. We also plan to have the application process for tuition assistance available via TADS open soon, and will provide details for those who wish to apply. The tuition assistance application process should also be open towards the end of March and will be available through May 1 for returning school families.

We are pleased to announce that, after a December decision by the congregation of Zion Lutheran Church, our school tuition rates will remain the same with no increase for the 2021-22 school year. It is our sincere mission to make Christian education affordable for anyone who wishes to make use of our school program and we sincerely appreciate that the members of our Church share those sentiments.

We do plan to continue the current cleaning protocols that are in place, which include the use of a professional service in lieu of school families sharing in cleaning duties. We are very satisfied with the work of the current cleaning service and feel it is in the school's best interest to continue with nightly professional cleaning. Because of this, the cleaning fee for the upcoming school will see an increase to $250 per student ($27.75 monthly) or $450 per family ($50 monthly) for families with two or more students in grades K-8. We feel that the total tuition and fees rate remains competitive with other parochial schools in our area while helping us to close our budgetary gap, as the congregation does cover a portion of every student’s educational cost.

On the back of this page you will find a tuition schedule for the 2021-2022 school year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Schneck. Again, look for an invitation from TADS to register for enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year to be emailed to you soon.

One additional item:  we will be holding a Zion School Open House on Tuesday, March 30 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This is an opportunity for those in our community who are looking for educational options for their children and who may be interested in our school to get information on our school, visit our classrooms, and meet our staff. We ask that you share our information with any friends and family that might be interested in what we have to offer. Watch for more information and invitations to share in the coming days.

In Christ’s service and yours,

Zion Lutheran School Board

Zion School Connection Issue #32  March 14, 2021

…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. – Romans 3:23-24

I have never had a traffic ticket. Not one. I am somewhat proud of that. However, it doesn’t mean that I haven’t ever deserved one.

For example, early one morning a few years back, I was heading out of my neighborhood to pick up a friend. I was at the intersection, and when the light turned green I made a left turn onto a four lane road, and apparently I moved too quickly into the outside lane. No one else was around but…the police car watching from the corner.

I think every driver knows the feeling. The flashing lights light up behind you. Your stomach drops. You pull over to the side of the road and quickly rehearse in your mind what you will say. I reached into my back pocket to get my driver’s license and…I realized that I forgot my wallet.

I won’t go into any more detail, but long story short, he let me off with a warning and a reminder not to forget my license in the future. With a lesson learned about lane changes on a left turn and prayers of thanks to God for the blessing of an understanding police officer, I was on my way. What a relief! No ticket, no fine, no points.

But we all have received much greater grace in our Lord Jesus. Far more than a mistaken lane change, we all have been caught red-handed. God knows every sin I’ve ever committed. Every impure thought. Every selfish deed. Every hurtful word and action. And each one makes me worthy of eternal punishment in hell. I have fallen so short of the glory of God.

But God doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve. Instead, he laid all of our sinful thoughts, words and deeds on Jesus, who took them to the cross, taking on himself our punishment, and granting us forgiveness, full and free. Now God looks at us and sees Jesus’ perfect obedience and life credited to us. We are declared “Not Guilty”! What grace!

As we continue our Lenten journey remembering Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection, take the opportunity with your family to remember and thank Jesus for his wonderful gift of grace-God’s underserved love for us-and rejoice in the gift of forgiveness, salvation, and eternity in heaven that is ours through him.

God bless your week,

Bryan SchneckJ
